Best for: Older PCs that can’t run Windows 11, where you need Pro features and want the lowest possible price — and you’re not planning to switch hardware.
Why is OEM cheaper?
OEM keys are permanently tied to the first PC they activate on. Same genuine Windows, same Pro features — the only difference is you can’t move it to a new machine. If you know you’ll stay on this hardware, OEM is the smarter buy.
Windows 10 vs 11?
Windows 10 support ended October 2025. No more security updates. If your PC can run Windows 11 (needs TPM 2.0), Windows 11 Pro is the better long-term choice. Windows 10 OEM is the right call for hardware too old to qualify for Windows 11.
What Pro gives you:
- BitLocker — full-disk encryption if your device is lost or stolen
- Remote Desktop — control your PC remotely or let IT assist
- Domain join — connect to business and school networks
- Hyper-V — run virtual machines
- Group Policy — business-grade settings management
